Glenlivet Bridge

Client:

TBC

The Story

As part of a major development to improve access to a new visitor centre, Go-Wright Ltd was commissioned to construct a landmark traditional masonry-faced arched bridge. This project was not just about infrastructure; it was about creating a structure that felt native to the historic Glenlivet landscape. We focused on utilising local materials and traditional techniques to ensure the bridge would serve as a beautiful, durable entrance for thousands of global visitors.

Our Technical Approach

This project highlighted the depth of our in-house trade skills, moving away from pre-fabricated solutions in favour of authentic craftsmanship:

  • On-Site Masonry Dressing: Our experienced in-house stonemasons cut and hand-dressed stone directly on the project site to ensure every piece fit the unique structural requirements of the arches.
  • Traditional Arch Construction: Utilising traditional lime mortar to build the triple-arch facade, allowing for the structural flexibility and breathability required in the Scottish climate.
  • Native Material Sourcing: By using stone won directly from the site, we ensured a perfect geological match with the surrounding environment, significantly reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
  • Specialist Detailing: Careful execution of the masonry cones and parapets, as seen in the final build, to provide a high-end finish that complements the local architectural vernacular.

The Result

The completed Glenlivet Bridge is a stunning example of modern engineering meeting traditional craft. By hand-dressing the stone on-site, Go-Wright delivered a level of texture and authenticity that pre-cut stone simply cannot match. The bridge now stands as a functional piece of art, providing safe, heavy-duty access while appearing as if it has been part of the landscape for centuries.
