The Story

Following a competitive tender exercise, Go-Wright Ltd was appointed as the main contractor for the comprehensive exterior restoration of Garrison House, a Category B Listed landmark on the Isle of Cumbrae. The building suffered from endemic water penetration issues due to deeply voided wall cores, requiring a highly specialised intervention to protect the structure’s long-term future. Working closely with ZM Architecture, we managed a £650k project to resolve these complex structural challenges while adhering to strict budgetary requirements.

Our Technical Approach

This project demanded extreme attention to detail and a departure from standard repair programmes. Our team delivered a methodical, specialised process including:

Specialised Re-Grouting: Executing a complex re-grouting process to the elevations to remedy deep-seated water ingress where standard re-pointing was insufficient.

Precision Leadwork: Individually lifting crenel stones to install new lead flashing before carefully bedding them back into their original positions.

Crenel Stone Restoration: Ensuring the historic silhouette of the building was maintained through delicate masonry handling and expert placement.

Collaborative Administration: Providing diligent project management and regular, thorough updates to ensure a smooth workflow for the contract administrators.
