The Story

Heritage masonry within high-visibility public spaces is often as much about restoring community trust as it is about restoring stone. Following the complex structural events surrounding the Christie Clock’s removal in 2023, Go-Wright was appointed as the Main Contractor by Stirling Council to lead the specialist restoration and reconstruction of this 117-year-old landmark. At Go-Wright, we believe heritage masonry is as much about the people who walk past these landmarks every day as it is about the craftsmanship itself. Understanding the deep emotional and historical connection the local community has with the Allan Park memorial, we have undertaken a highly transparent, sympathetic, and collaborative approach to reviving this symbol of civic pride and bringing Stirling’s history home.

Our Technical Approach

This high-profile project demands a meticulous reconstruction of surviving original fabric, combined with precision engineering and elite multi-disciplinary coordination. As Main Contractor, our scope includes:

Collaborative Heritage Leadership: Coordinating an elite team of conservation specialists to guarantee the highest standard of historic accuracy, including ZM Architecture for structural and heritage design, Graciela Ainsworth Sculpture Conservation to protect the artistic integrity of the monument, and H.E. Weir & Son to manage the intricate mechanics of the historic clock and steeple.

Meticulous Structural Rebuild: Systematically cataloguing, preparing, and rebuilding the surviving original stonework, ensuring structural stability while preserving the authentic aged character of the masonry.

Precision Stone Matching: Sourcing and hand-dressing new sandstone pieces to seamlessly supplement and integrate with the historic fabric where original elements were lost or damaged.

Civils & Infrastructure Integration: Managing a safe, secure, and logistically sound site within a bustling public park environment, bridging the gap between delicate conservation artistry and robust civil engineering infrastructure.

The Result

Entrusted with the ultimate responsibility of seeing this piece of Stirling’s history standing tall once again, Go-Wright is successfully driving the project toward its completion.
